Cyndie-C Designs gives fashion line new lease
Cyndie-C Designs has relaunched its brand with plans to expand its fashion range, increase market reach and promote locally made clothing as part of efforts to grow their local fashion industry.
Cyndie-C Designs is a fashion line founded by deceased fashion designer Cynthia Chisomo Ng’oma, daughter of former Cabinet minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma in 2013 before she succunbed to cancer in 2024.
Speaking during the relaunch event in Lilongwe on Sunday, Cyndie-C Designs managing director Theodora Ng’oma Ntaba, sister to the late Cynthia, said they want to continue the work started by Cynthia who was working to rebrand the fashion house, improve its visibility and expand its presence within the fashion sector.

“This is just us fulfilling dream because we made a promise to her that we would continue her legacy and ensure that the brand goes beyond Malawi,” she said.
Ntaba said the company is now restructuring its operations and plans to work with other fashion designers and players to strengthen the industry as it grows to contribute to the economy.
“Transforming the economy needs collaboration other than working as individuals. We want to contribute to the transformation of the economy through fashion,” she said.
Ntaba said the company will focus on producing different categories of clothing, including locally inspired designs to preserve Malawi’s culture and pieces targeting international markets.
Meanwhile, Cyndie-C Designs chief executive officer Villant Ng’oma has called on Malawians to support local designers by buying them.
He said many local consumers still rely on imported clothing and only use local tailors and fashion designers for events such as weddings and birthdays.
“It is common these days for people to order clothes online and only go to local tailors for occasional clothing. We have to invest in our designers and trust then,” she said.
In a separate interview, Milanzi Interiors head of design Scott Weale, who partnered with Cyndie-C Designs, said collaborations are important because they help to drive growth and creativity in the industry.
“When it comes to fashion, just as every other industry, it is important to collaborate with others to spearhead and promote growth of the industry,” he said.
